Marcus is a British artist based in Margate, known for his bold, intuitive approach to abstract painting. His work combines layering, distressing, and blending to create textured, immersive surfaces that invite closer attention. With roots in design, Marcus brings a sharp, contemporary edge to his practice.

His paintings have been shown internationally and are part of private collections worldwide. His work has appeared in publications including Schön! Magazine, Condé Nast, High Snobiety, and Trebuchet, and he's been featured by BBC News and part of the Soho House collection. He occasionally speaks on podcasts and panels, reflecting on process, creativity, and life as a working artist.

"There’s definitely a performative side to how I work—the process is raw, physical, and largely instinctive. The energy of each piece often mirrors whatever music is playing in the studio; different tempos shape the rhythm of the brushstrokes. I’m drawn to the physicality of painting, and I hope that sense of movement and immediacy carries through when someone stands in front of the work."

Marcus regularly exhibits his work and has commissioned works for commercial spaces and individual collectors. To keep up with the latest exhibitions, art fairs and news, follow Marcus on Instagram @marcusaitken_
